FX Design / References

Wei(Click here to see Wei’s website) and I have been discussing the division of responsibilities for the effects and shots. Wei will be responsible for Shot 2 (Blooming Flower) and Shot 3 (Water Droplets), while I will focus on Shot 3, Shot 4, and Shot 5, which involve Water Droplets, Liquid in the Bottle, and Perfume Mist.

As I had a fever over the weekend (thank you to my team for their understanding), I took the time to gather some references that align with the visual direction I want to achieve. My goal is to create effects that are both realistic and visually stunning, balancing beauty and realism.

Deciding the Product, Shots, and Concept / Working on Pitch Presentation

Today, our team focused on finalizing the product and starting the pitch presentation. After careful consideration, we chose Coco Chanel No. 5 as our product. We were drawn to the concept of this commercial because it aligns perfectly with the luxurious and natural vibe we want to convey. Additionally, considering the limited time available for modeling, this choice allows us to balance creativity and feasibility effectively.

The key elements of this perfume—floral and woody—have inspired us to incorporate natural motifs into our design.

I found these two commercials that really caught my eye. I love the composition and overall design, which aligns with the direction we want to take. Based on these references, we decided to pursue a similar concept and tone for the entire commercial.

Shot Design

For the shot design, we aim to use a variety of frame compositions to make the commercial visually dynamic. We plan to achieve smooth transitions using natural elements such as petals and water droplets, which will enhance the fluidity and elegance of the piece.

Storyboard

The storyboard, created by Shannon, reflects the color tone we envision for the entire commercial. It emphasizes a golden hue to complement the background sunset, enhancing the luxurious and natural vibe we aim to achieve while seamlessly integrating the product with its environment.

Why I Chose This Product

I selected this product because it allows us to incorporate soft, elegant elements into the commercial, aligning with the luxurious aesthetic we want to achieve. The product itself has a visually stunning exterior that exudes luxury, while its interior provides opportunities to creatively showcase its textures and transformative qualities.

Pitch to Teammates

After Class Two, we decided that each team member would select a specific product, pitch it to the group, and discuss which one would work best for our project. For my pitch, I chose Clé de Peau Beauté La Crème.

Idea Brainstorming

Initially, our team decided to focus on showcasing the product in an elegant and visually striking way to achieve a luxurious feel for the commercial. We considered various product categories, such as jewelry, skincare/makeup, or perfume. Each teammate researched references and pitched their ideas to the group, and I compiled the following list during Class Two to share with my teammates.

My goal was to find products that allow us to explore their interiors creatively, adding a unique and captivating element to the commercial. Below is the list of references I collected:
