Week 1 Class 1

First Day with Team KESS: Excited for the Journey Ahead

Today was our first class, and I’m thrilled to have joined Team KESS alongside these talented artists: Kulin Mehta, Saw Htoo, and Sydney Relkin. We’re all eager to dive into the project and collaborate for the rest of the quarter.

During the last 20 minutes of class, we discussed potential concepts for our commercial. After some brainstorming, we unanimously decided that featuring a classic, recognizable candy would be the perfect choice to bring our creative vision to life.

We also finalized our roles within the team, each of us contributing our expertise:

Classic and Recognizable Candy Ideas

Initial Concept: Snickers for the Commercial

The first product that came to mind was Snickers, as it's known for giving you an energy boost when you're feeling exhausted. I’ve developed a story concept around this idea and have asked Lin Lin, our storyboard artist, to bring it to life.

Concept Overview:

The story follows an exhausted hiker who, after running out of energy in the forest, discovers a Snickers bar on the ground. After consuming the Snickers, the scene shifts to reveal that he’s actually in an office environment, suggesting that the energy boost from the Snickers has transformed his experience.

We continued brainstorming classic and recognizable candy ideas. While we initially thought the Snickers concept might be a bit too simple, we developed a new idea featuring Skittles.

Concept 2 Overview:

The new story involves a person lighting a cannon to shoot Skittles into the sky. As the Skittles burst into the air, they transform into colorful fireworks, symbolizing how Skittles, like fireworks, can add a burst of color and joy to our lives.

We are also working on how to effectively blend live-action shots with CG to make the final product visually compelling.
